Preparation & Schedule Preparation begins after stamping down snow. Nearby willow tree is cut and tied with straw. Pyre is lit soon after preparation is done.
Other Information ・The pyre is lit as soon as we are done preparing, so it's hard to give an exact time, but it's usually between 10 and 11

Preparation & Schedule ・After the morning preparation, a sake party is held at the community center (Many people get quite drunk at this party).
・Those entering their yakudoshi (unlucky year) bring sake to the lighting ceremony for everyone to drink.
Other Information ・New Year's decorations are buried in the main tree that forms the base of the pyre then wrapped in straw. When the fire burns, these burst out. This method of pyre building and the resulting shape is unique to Uwano.
・Bamboo is also used in the pyre. It makes a beautiful crackling sound as it burns.

・Preparation takes about 1 hour. Because few people are available to help, trees are no longer cut down. The pyre is made from bamboo and straw only.

・After the fire is lit at 7:00 p.m. sake will be served, so please do not come by car.
